Foxconn provides 4.9 billion to buy the Japanese Sharp

The main subcontractor of the iPhone flies to the rescue of one of its competitors and suppliers. If the operation were to materialize, it would be the largest acquisition of a Japanese company by a Taiwanese group.

The new episode of relations between Foxconn and Sharp could make history. The Taiwanese subcontractor Apple – and most major brands of smartphones – proposed 625 billion yen (just under € 5 billion) to buy Sharp, former flagship of the Japanese high-tech. If the operation were to materialize, it would be the largest acquisition of a Japanese company by a Taiwanese group.
