The 500 euro note is almost finished. The ECB announced the end of production of the 500 euro note and its withdrawal from circulation.
The European Central Bank (ECB) announced on Wednesday the end of the show the 500 euro note and its gradual withdrawal from circulation. Production will cease at the end of 2018, says the ECB. The 500 euro note can still be exchanged at the national banks of the euro zone with no time limits.
The ECB justifies the withdrawal by the fact that this note, the biggest cut in euro, could facilitate illegal activities. Production of the 500 euro note will cease by the end of 2018 when the new series of 100 and 200 euro notes will be introduced. The euro therefore count 6 tickets (5, 10, 20, 50, 100 and 200 euros).
